The following charts represent our journey as we have implemented the CLASS tool as the foundation of the coaching process for classroom staff. We have committed to continuous improvement and the results are in!

This type of dramatic improvement could only be achieved with the hard work and willingness to improve by all involved.

CLASS Domain: Emotional Support

Looks at positive relationships among teachers and children, the ways that teachers support social/emotional functioning, and the degree to which teachers promote children's autonomy.

Emotional Support:

CLASS Domain: Classroom Organization

Considers how well time and behavior is managed to maximize learning opportunities.

Classroom Organization:

CLASS Domain: Instructional Support

Encompasses the ways in which teachers implement lessons & activities to promote cognitive & linguistic development. It also focuses on how teachers use feedback to help children learn.

Instructional Support:

CLASS: Is a structured observation measure which is statistically valid and reliable. CLASS: is about more than raising teachers' scores. It is about fundamentally improving teaching and learning. Teacher-child interactions drive learning. Coaching: Research shows that it takes 10 months of intensive coaching to increase scores by half of a point.

A Systematic Approach for Improvement

Two Education Specialists became certified "Train the Trainers" Implemented video taping of teachers Coaching model was implemented Education Specialists became calibrated to one another

Implemented more rigorous calibration method of "Blind Scoring" among Education Specialists Introduction of New Teacher Self Reflection tool based upon previous goals.

All 3 domains remain above National Average Gradual increase

Education Specialists became calibrated with Teachstone Implemented 2 week window of scheduling CLASS observations

Uptick in Emotional Support 2/3 domains remain steady

Continuation of coaching process Education Specialists received advanced training on coaching practices

Significant increase in all domains Cumulative effect of systematic coaching systems and continuous improvement.
