JEMS SEPTEMBER: UNIQUENESS
JEMS SEPTEMBER: UNIQUENESS
Uniqueness defines us as very special individuals - possessing different qualities, strengths & weaknesses, likes & dislikes, and many more. This month, the students of JEMS approached this topic from different levels and perspectives, learning about themselves and how we are all one-of-a-kind!
"I am special with my round eyes that see."
In September, students learnt that everyone is special in their own ways.
This month, students learnt that there's only one of everyone and that makes each person special and one of a kind.
Students learnt that everyone is a 'Thumbody' with their different and unique thumb and finger prints in the month of September.
In the month of Uniqueness, Pre-JJ students learned that everyone is special with their body parts (eyes, mouth, ears & hands) and the unique functions of each body part.
"I am special with my mouth that smiles."
"I am special with my hands that clap."
"I am special with my ears that listen."
"I am special with my different appearance."
"I am special because I like to eat different foods."
"I am special because I am good at different things."
"I am special because I can do different things."
"There is only one of me in my family."
"There is only one of me in my school."
"There is only one of me in Hong Kong."
"There is only one of me in the world."
"I am special because I am one of a kind."
"I am special because I have different favourite likings."
"I am special because I have different emotions and feelings."
"I am special because I have dreams of what I want to be when I grow up."
Junior JEMS (JJ)
I AM UNIQUE... in my Appearances, my Gifts & Talents, my Strengths & Weaknesses, and in my Confidence
I AM ONE OF A KIND... with my Goals & Dreams, my Personality, my Multiple Intelligences, and my Likes & Dislikes
I AM CONFIDENT... At JEMS, we define confidence as knowing strengths and accepting weaknesses, knowing that everyone has both. We liken confidence to a castle - we cannot show off in our Tower of Strengths nor hide in our Room of Weaknesses.
NOBODY'S PERFECT Nobody is perfect and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Students read, discuss, and learn that perfection is impossible. Students then look at role models such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Helen Keller to discuss strengths and weaknesses and to see the many wonderful things they have accomplished.
COURAGE Students discuss what courage is and how it is important to stand firm and not give into peer pressure. Having courage is tied closely to understanding that everyone is unique, including ourselves. Students learn that having courage means being willing to stand up for what is right even when those around you may not agree.
I AM UNIQUE We revisit some of the topics they have learnt at JEMS over the years and look at them from the perspective of being at the highest level at JEMS. Students discuss what they would like to learn and achieve over the course of the academic year, using their intrinsic motivation to carve out something meaningful for them during this year.
