How shall I make my work Open Access?
Pay a fee to enable immediate access online for all via the publisher website because:
Publishers publish your research. Other researchers then access your work via a library or personal subscription. Add the accepted manuscript to the UWE Research Repository because:
• Open Access research is cited more frequently • Content is preserved, accurately described
• Your staff profile drives traffic to your research • It achieves high visibility on Google, search engines and UWE website • Full text is easily accessible from UWE staff profile • You will have an accurate and complete record of your research with persistent, reliable links to publishers • It complies with the HEFCE policy for open access in the post-2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) • No copyright worries for you • No additional charges
• You can also add your work to the UWE Research Repository • It complies with the RCUK policy on open access
HOW WE CAN HELP YOU WITH GOLD OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING
• Until Mar 2018, the library is in receipt of a limited amount of RCUK funding, so may be able to pay your article processing charge (APC) for you • Until Dec 2018, Springer allow UWE to make articles open access for free, as long as they are published in a Springer Open Choice journal • Taylor and Francis provide us with a 75% discount reducing the typical APC cost to around £500 • For RCUK- funded research only: We have a number of pre-paid vouchers for IEEE journal articles • For FET researchers, a pilot scheme with limited funding is available to provide selective support for journal articles being published in gold open access form.
