Pre- Convention Highlights
We loved launching our week with you during our Pre-Convention workshops! Topics included getting oriented to new superintendent roles, how to address times of crisis as a principal, ESSA implementation, and the needs of rural districts. To the left, attendees of the Rural Educator Workshop get to know one another through a paper-airplane ice-breaker.
To the right, Augustus Mays of WestEd breaks down ESSA for attendees of the CAES Workshop.

Thought-provoking, timely, and relevant keynote speakers
StoryCorps founder and acclaimed documentarian Dave Isay launched a week of spectacular speakers. His keynote presentation, "The Power of Storytelling," encouraged educators to "heal through listening"- listening to their students, to their teachers, to their community. Thank you again to the Colorado Education Initiative for their support in bringing StoryCorps to the Convention. On Thursday, author and war-correspondent Sebastian Junger provided another emotional testimony, this time stressing the power of groups. "We are better off together than apart," Junger said, explaining how our society often comes
together during times of adversity. Friday's Legislative and Policy Issues general session finished off the event with an update from CASE's
national affiliate,AASA's Noelle Ellerson. As always, she impressed attendees with her federal advocacy efforts. Additionally, this session included an update from CASE's lobbyist, Elisabeth Rosen, as well as appearances from the 2016 CASE Legislative and Policy Award Winners, pictured above: Rep. John Becker, Sen. Alec Garnett, Rep. Jim Wilson and Sen. Jack Tate. Also pictured are CASE Lobbyist Elisabeth Rosen and CASE Executive Director Lisa Escárcega.
