LORNA SUNDBERG INTERNATIONAL CENTER University of Virginia
Founded in 1972, the Lorna Sundberg International Center (IC) provides a welcoming environment for the sharing of cultures at UVA. A division of UVA's International Studies Office, the IC supports the University’s global education initiatives by providing programs and services to enhance the experience of UVA’s international students, scholars, faculty, staff, and families, as well as opportunities for intercultural enrichment for the University and the local communities.

Iranian New Year
Saeideh Mastali and Mehrsa Ghaffari created a beautiful Haft-Seen display and shared traditional dishes to celebrate Persian New Year.
Scottish Bagpipes & Country Dancing
Fraser Doig played some tunes with the bagpipes he brought from Scotland. To play at full volume, he had to perform from outside.
Japanese Calligraphy & Origami
Miyuki Kaizuka demonstrated her calligraphy expertise. We also launched our Senbazuru project to fold 1000 cranes this year.
Mary Ellen Brown
After 10 years of holding the picnic at the Brown's family farm in Batesville, we held the annual event at James Monroe's Highland this year. Over 200 guests enjoyed the beautiful afternoon playing lawn games and exploring the grounds.

Michelle Fabiola Chaillo Lizarraga (pictured right with Richard Sundberg and Faran Saeed), a rising 4th year international student from Mexico, was awarded the 2016 scholarship. Chaillo, a student in the McIntire School of Commerce concentrating on marketing, demonstrated her leadership and contribution to the UVA Community with the Special Olympics, Class Council, Hoo Crew, and Commerce Council.

This year's success would not have been possible without the dedication and effort of seven student staff, two full-time staff, and 78 program volunteers. As always, we look forward to working with friends and colleagues at UVA and in Charlottesville to bring engaging cultural programs to our community.
