Guide to Your New Gig
6 Tips to Get You Started
As with many changes, approaching a new job or role with a creative and open mind can be the key to a smooth transition
USE YOUR CREATIVITY TO ADAPT
In taking on a new position, it can be tempting to try and start with a bang. Starting small with a focus on learning the business and the role will be invaluable for you. Get close to your customers, both internal and external. Understand the business from their point of view before you develop your own.
As you begin to learn the business, look for places where things repeat. Do you hear the same feedback or see similar outcomes? Finding patterns can help you identify where you should focus your energy as you begin to dig deeper into your new role.
LET YOUR CREATIVITY THRIVE
Approach new ideas with an open mind
Go into new situations with curiosity
Take notes and jot down ideas as they come
Talking to people and getting to know what has and has not been successful can be critical for your understanding of the new culture and expectations.
From learning new acronyms to the names of coworkers, you are trying to absorb a lot of information. Mistakes are going to be natural. It's how you handle them that matters.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF
Have a healthy sense of humor about any errors. It's ok to laugh at yourself!
Ask for corrections. It can open a dialogue with people and help you learn more
Be patient with yourself and give yourself the time and space to learn
DON'T RUN OUT OF
As you continue to build relationships and get further along in your new role, make sure to nurture the part of you that is unique and creative. Remember: you were selected because of who you are not so you can become like everyone else!
