- index cards - pens or markers
Have students pair off or form small groups and write words on index cards, making sure to include nouns, adjectives, verbs and some silly words, too (squishy, hippopotamus, gargle, sashay…).
Vocabulary and spelling words make great choices. One student tosses the cards into the air and challenges the other to pick up words as quickly as possible, read them, and use them to form a sentence.
Once one student has formed a few sentences, switch places and let her toss the cards.
Helps build vocabulary and boosts understanding of sentence structure words in context.
