Course Syllabus

WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?

Algebra helps us to develop our ability to solve problems and to reason logically. Moreover, it offers us a way to explore and make sense of our world through patterns. The algebraic curriculum is designed to build upon and expand students’ knowledge of numbers, computations, estimations, measurements, geometry, statistics, probability, patterns, functions, and algebraic concepts through a problem solving approach.

WHAT TOPICS WILL WE COVER?

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME IN THIS CLASS?

Come to class on time and prepared.

Be respectful to EVERYONE in class.

Actively participate in class and give every assignment your best effort.

Phones are expected to be put away at all times.

How will my grade be determined?

What if I am absent?

Look in the "While You Were Out" binder and pickup any handouts. You have the same number of days to complete assignments as you were absent. Also, check my website!

What if my work is turned in late?

Day 1: -10pts/ Teacher tutorial Day 2: -20pts/ Teacher tutorial Day 3: -30pts/ Lunch detention Day 4: -40pts/ Thurs. Night School Day 5: -50pts/ ISS

Students who score below a 70 on a test will be able to retake the test for a maximum of a 70. Students must complete corrections and attend one reteach tutorial before the retake.

What if I don't pass a test?

Major Grades (50%)

Minor Grades (50%)

Graded assignments will be passed back in class 1-3 days after the due date. Grades will also be posted to Skyward.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS EVERYDAY?

Math spiral (3-subject)

iPad* (charged!)

pencils

* STUdents without a school-issued ipad will be provided technology as needed

To complete a flipped lesson, you will watch a video online and take notes in your spiral Rewind and rewatch the video as needed The next day in class we will go over your notes and any questions you have This allows us to complete the practice in class with support from peers and the teacher

What if I need help?

Search for a video.

Come for tutoring.

Search my website, Virtual Nerd, Google, etc. for a video on the topic.

Look on my website for my tutoring schedule. If you need to come in the morning, be sure to get a pass the day before or bring a parent note.

Ask a friend for help.

Compare notes with a friend and ask them to show you an example. Don't copy! You are only cheating yourself!
