A simple district system guide

Two Events

$5,000 gets you two district events instead of one regional event. Each additional district event is $1,000 instead of $4,000 for an extra regional.

What are districts?

Two Days

Contact your regional planning committee and ask how you can get involved in transitioning to the district system.

Districts are two day events (Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday) so students miss less school.

Registration + 1 Event

Instead of a day of practice matches, you can work on your robot for six hours the week of the regional. If that's not enough, you still get one practice match at your district event.

Right now, Minnesota is extremely underrepresented at the World Championship; there are only 24 qualifying spots in the state. Under districts, this would go up to 40 spots. These spots would be guaranteed to go to MN teams instead of Iowa or Wisconsin teams.

More Matches

Last year, teams at MN events only competed in 9 qualification matches. In the district system, each team gets 12 matches per district event. Also, with only 40 teams instead of 60+ at each tournament, you're more likely to make it to the elimination rounds.

Qualify Without Winning

Qualification for the District Championship and World Championship are based on a point system to ensure teams that perform consistently well earn spots at the next tier of events, even if they don't win one of the major awards.
